staffs, district administrators, and ESOL facilitators. The
site content will give the reader an overview of the history of ESOL and
its implementation since 1990. More than a decade ago a class action law suit was brought against the Florida Department of Education. This resulted in a court decree directing the Florida Department of Education to reinvent its approach to all areas of the educational experience for students who are limited English proficient. [ More complete histories of these events are chronicled on the "Links" page. ] |

After several years of using paper intensive systems of education and training of teachers for this difficult new discipline called ESOL, the use of computers and on-line instruction by teachers and schools came rapidly up the technology curve with new equipment, networks, etc, promoting on-line distance learning. Santa Rosa County School Systems obtained grants to fund the development of on-line ESOL teaching modules. The courses have been designed to meet the ESOL Inservice needs for Category I, Category II and Category III Instructional personnel. These courses, materials and teacher notes are provided free of charge to any Florida School District.
On-line web instruction has made it possible for ESOL Class I, II & III instructional personnel to complete assignments from any computer with internet access, making course materials available in a more efficient manner. It saves costs by using home and classroom access, and reducing the attendant expense of travel to and from meetings for teachers and ESOL facilitators. Contracted by a school district to provide the ESOL programs to their teachers, The Janus Group, at http://www.janusgroup.com, a web administrator specializing in K12 schools, provides central hosting services on its Internet servers, and certain web enabled functions including::
The Janus Group will host the courses for those districts desiring Janus professional web services as described above. An interactive on-line demonstrator has
been provided here on the Janus Group ESOL Online page, using Category III
assignment materials, surveys, tests, etc. that would normally be sent to
a district facilitator. For purposes of this demonstration testing
of Category III, you will receive by reply e-mail a copy of your computer
survey (form 1) results so you can view what the facilitator would receive
for your evaluation. Janus prepares a custom web page for the ESOL modules from which each district can administer the ESOL program for its teachers. The ESOL page is tailored to match the theme and colors of the school district website. A replica of a working district page is available for your review from the Janus ESOL Online page as "Florida District Online with ESOL".
